ROLE: Individual Project
TIMELINE: Spring 2023
TOOLS: Figma, Illustrator

— 01 Introduction

The purpose of this project was simple: to unleash our creativity and have fun doing it. The challenge was to conceive an app idea and design a distinctive, engaging interface for it. This exercise not only encouraged me to think outside the box but also allowed me to try app designs I have not been able to before.

— 02 Research

To create a fun app design, I first needed to create a fun and engaging app.

I wanted to create a cookbook app, through which friends and family could share their favorite recipes or find new ones. To have a better understanding of this app’s features, I interviewed 5 potential users on what features they would like to see in such an app. Here are their responses:

• Being able to send each other recipes.

• Create different sections for recipes. Such as, person they are from, type of food, etc.

• Be able to find new recipes based on preferences.

• Share their recipes on the app.

— Ideation

For this project, our focus was solely on creating screen designs rather than a functional prototype. This allowed me to explore playful design elements that I might typically avoid in Figma. After sketching a few concepts and creating my moodboard, I began developing the screen designs.

Next Steps

• Prototype the app in Figma.

Takeaways

• Not every design needs to follow current UX trends. It is OK to have fun sometimes!
